The Inland Waterways Association Certificate of Boat Management is the recognised qualification for skippers of small passenger boats. These are vessels carrying 12 passengers or fewer operating on Category A Waters – narrow rivers and canals where the water is generally less than 1.5 metres deep.

Boat Handling for Leisure
RYA Inland Waterways Helmsman’s Certificate
This course is for anyone wanting to cruise the UK’s inland waterways or Europe’s extensive network of lakes, rivers and canals. It deals specifically with the requirements of the inland boater, whether they be a narrow boat owner or cruiser enthusiast.

It assumes no prior knowledge and so is ideal for the first timer, yet the more seasoned boater will learn plenty of tricks of the trade and tips to make their boating safer and more enjoyable.
It is a hands-on course with minimal theory, and is not only an opportunity to learn new skills but also a fun two days out!
This two day course can be taken either on the centre’s boat or on your own boat. The price is £350 per person. Please use our contact form if you would like to discuss booking a course.
Successful completion of this course, together with a CEVNI examination pass, leads to the International Certificate of Competence (ICC), which is the essential qualification for those wishing to navigate in Europe and further afield.

Experience Days
If you are not seeking a qualification right now, we can organise a boat handling experience day to suit you. (If you wish, the day can cover the same syllabus as the first day of the RYA Helmsman’s Certificate course.)
